Google celebrated their 15th birthday this week, and as part of the celebration the search giant announced a massive restructuring of the way their search engine works. The new update has been dubbed “Hummingbird,” and won’t drastically change the way search looks to users… but it does add a lot more detail to make those searches more useful.
Hummingbird has been built to support “conversational search” – such as those searches you can make by speaking into your phone. Google basically looks at the relationship between the words you type or speak, plus with your physical location and other information, to direct you to what you need. For businesses, this means that having helpful content and local information is more important than ever.
