In late March, Google released information on their new product Google +1. This new idea from Google gives you the ability to vote up or share information, similar to Facebook’s use of the “like” button. With +1, you can Google anything as usual but you can “+1” anything that is of interest to you such as an article, website or a video.
“+1” was released as an experiment for users who opt into the +1 button experiment (for the next few months, then everyone else later). With this, Google will be placing the +1 button next to your search results so you can share with your friends what you like or what you have read. As well, the +1 button will be added to ads on Google so you can essentially “like” an ad.
In regards to advertisers, interactive marketing news company ClickZ wrote:
“Google is confident that advertisers should get more qualified traffic coming into their website based on this addition (e.g., if you saw a friend recommend the ad, you may be more likely to convert). Google suggests advertisers will likely also see an overall increase in click-through rate (CTR) as these +1 annotations increase over time.”
Google has played around with an idea such as +1 earlier. With the ability to see what articles, websites or videos your friends have shared on Facebook or Twitter. In addition, users of +1 will also be able to +1 ads.
“Google defines this action as a ‘public stamp of approval.’ When you +1 something, your name becomes associated with that link ‘in search, on ads, and across the web,’ according to the company. It also shows up in a feed on your Google Profile, which is required to use the product,” Mashable wrote.
What will you +1? Do you think it will catch on? Tell me more in the comments section below.
