Folks, it’s now 2016. It’s officially time to stop using “password” as your password. Last month, SplashData released its list of the worst passwords of 2015. “Password” and “123456” continue to top the list. The Force Awakens saw the inclusion of “starwars” and “solo” on the list. So…how do you create a strong password? Strong passwords:
- Are at least 8 characters long. The longer, the better. Try and make a password out of a sentence to easily create a long password.
- Avoid names, places and complete words. Don’t use your name or your company name. Avoiding full dictionary words also makes passwords more secure.
- Vary capitalization, numbers and symbols. For example, take a phrase – “going to the shore” – and splice it up randomly for more security – “g01NG2t#E$#0rE”
