In the largest single change to Facebook Pages since their introduction a couple years ago, Facebook has announced that on March 30 they will be switching all of the Facebook Pages over to the new “Timeline” format. This means a lot of changes for businesses — here’s what you need to know.
According to Facebook, the main reason for the switch was to offer viewers and visitors a personalized experience. The new layout offers lots of ways to customize your page to engage with your viewers.
Changes You Will Notice:
Profile Photos: Now, there will be two main photos instead of just one. A cover photo and a profile photo. “The cover photo can be especially powerful for its ability to display logos, products or personalities.”
Navigation: There will be different tabs for likes, photos, events and customized apps, so visitors can select what view they would like to experience the page in. This new format is all about creating an experience for your friends. Mike Hoefflinger, the Facebook Director of Marketing, says, “We created ads because we couldn’t tell stories in any other way to the scale needed to make a difference.” The new Facebook Pages will help build a company’s brand.
Milestones: posting a milestone, which could mean a new store opening or participating in an event, the new page highlights the most important piece of content so visitors can see it right away.
Page Administrator: The user’s side of Facebook Pages is also different. The administrator of the page will be able to see an activity log, manage the timeline, hide and unhide posts or star posts to make them more important. “Best of all, you can now respond directly to private messages without added hassles or obstacles.”
If you want to see what your Facebook Page will look like under the new layout there should be a “preview your page” button at the top of the page. There you will be able to see your updated page. Facebook is giving people the option of switching over to the new Timeline version or staying with the current version, but on March 30 Facebook will automatically switch it over for everyone.
BizzyWeb will cover the new Timeline Facebook Page in a FREE Buzz Builders webinar next Wednesday, March 7 at noon. Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn about and get ready for this change!
