If you have a Twitter account, you probably know most of the people following you but there may also be a few on your list who you’ve never heard of or met.
Twitter is infested with bots: automated, fake accounts that flood the social media network by re-posting content from websites. These bots feed people links and information in an effort to enhance the appearance of legitimacy, sway your opinions and gather followers to become influential among various social groups.
Now there’s a new, free tool that can help you determine if a follower or user is a real person or a bot account.
“Bot or Not?“, a project developed by Indiana University Bloomington, is able to analyze the percentage of bots and / or fake followers of any Twitter account. The tool can scan Twitter users’ online behavior in seconds to detect possible bots.
You can enter any Twitter screen name and select the ‘Check User’ button to see the results. Click here to check it out!
