With all of the data breaches that have been in the news recently, how do you know if you are secure? Here are two sites that can help to give you some confidence:
Have I Been Pwned?
Troy Hunt, software architect and Microsoft MVP, created “Have I been pwned?” as a free resource for anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised, or “pwned” in a data breach. He wanted to keep it simple to use and entirely free so that it could be of maximum benefit to the community.

Security Alerts from KnowEm
On September 10, 2014, there was a report that 5 million Gmail addresses were hacked. KnowEm LLC has made the hacked list of emails publicly searchable – just enter your address and find out if you’re on the list of possible compromised accounts.

These two sites can’t guarantee 100% to cover every data breach that has ever happened, but they should help to boost your confidence over the recent hacks. While none of us have complete control, if you are consistent about changing your passwords on a monthly basis on all your major accounts, you should be able to avoid being affected.
