While the rest of the country waits for the ball to drop on New Year’s Day, we at BizzyWeb anxiously await another end-of-the-year-event: Google’s Most Searched Words.
Each year, Google looks back at the top search trends and we couldn’t be more excited. Besides being really, really cool (in our professional opinion) the top searched terms tell us a lot about consumers. It shows us what was top of mind from pop culture to politics, and helps build a roadmap to the next year.
The Most Searched Words in Google in 2018
In 2018, people searched for pop culture (like the world cup & Black Panther) and trending terms (like Bitcoin). They were more curious about their world. But most of all, the word of 2018 was “good.”
What This Means for 2019
Looking at the trends of 2018, a few things become clear:
- People wanted to be active in their communities
- New technologies are top-of-mind, and also confusing
- Entertainment and pop culture were, as always, on people’s minds
- Despite hardships, people wanted to find the good in others and themselves
The most searched words of 2018 showed us that consumers are very concerned about the world and communities. As the socially-conscious Millennials and Generation Z dominate more and more of the global landscape, companies need to be sure that they have a positive internal community and are contributing positively to the world. In 2019, show your own good in your actions and words.
