WordPress 4.0 was announced late last week and offers a bunch of handy improvements to the WordPress interface. Most of our clients will receive this update over the next few weeks as we take some time to test 4.0 against each site’s configuration (plugins, themes and other functions). If you like to be on the “bleeding edge” and have the benefits of WordPress 4.0 right away, please DO NOT update your site until you’ve either confirmed with BizzyWeb that your site will work, or at a very minimum that you’ve backed up your site with a quality backup tool (all BizzyWeb-hosted sites run a fantastic backup tool called BackupBuddy).
Dave Meyer of BizzyWeb will take this week’s BizzyWebinar to go over the benefits of WordPress 4.0 and share how to safely make the upgrade yourself.
The big updates on 4.0 include:
- A new media gallery manager that makes adding media to your site quick and easy
- Enhancements to the embedding features to allow you to actually SEE the YouTube videos, embedded tweets or MP3s as they’ll be presented on your site
- A better edit window to make working with your content easier than ever before, and
- A new plugin browser/manager to streamline the process of adding functionality to your site
